THE
REEL THING December
1998
Sheila
and I want to take advantage of the fact that I get to write this thing each
month to wish all our members, along with everybody else who is lucky enough
to receive the REEL THING, a:
Very Merry Christmas and a Happy
New Year!
Only
two nights left at the gym before we close shop for the Christmas holidays.
We are back in action on Thursday, January 7th, 1999.
Hopefully Leon will be back in action conducting his popular fly tying
sessions at that time. After all
it’s only five months to go before spring trout opening!
This
week’s action at the gym features our annual in-house Novice Club
Championship in Dry Fly and Plug Accuracy.
Paul Kennedy won last year, but will have his hands full to repeat this
time around. We will also be
having a fun cash prize game where all you have to do to win five bucks or
more is place your cast (plug) in a garbage can at forty feet.
Should be fun! Sounds
easy, doesn’t it - and it is - in practice.
But with money on the line it somehow becomes more difficult.
Our
bamboo rod building sessions are going great guns with five or six of these
beautiful wands nearly or already completed.
I
would like to welcome our newest addition to our ranks with the arrival of our
new and eager Intermediate age member, Rich Varey.
Rich gives us a great foursome of kids hoping to shoot for medals at
the up-coming North American Casting Championships being held in Toronto next
summer. We already have fourteen
of our members who have indicated their interest in competing in these
championships. It will be nice if
we have that many also willing to try their skills in our Open Scarborough
Championships next June.
