 THE REEL THING                                                                                June 1995

As there is so much to do right now, this will of necessity be a fairly brief issue of our club bulletin.

FIRST - AND MOST IMPORTANTLY - THERE WILL BE A MEETING ON THURSDAY EVENING, 7:30, AT MY HOME FOR ALL THOSE WHO HAVE INDICATED THAT THEY WILL BE EITHER DIRECTLY, OR INDIRECTLY, INVOLVED IN OUR HOSTING THE NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIPS, JULY 31ST TO AUGUST 5TH.  IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO COME TO THIS MEETING SO THAT WE CAN MAKE SURE THAT WE ARE ALL TRAVELLING ON THE SAME WAVE LENGTH!

The fishing segment (with Steve Rajeff and myself) of the Canadian Sportfishing show that Henry & Italo are doing on the tournament  went off quite nicely and it looks like the one hour show that they are putting together for T.S.N. will be a winner.  As you know, they will also be filming the actual tournament itself, with the final video demonstrating the correlation between competitive fly and bait casting and actual fishing techniques on streams and lakes.

Our annual Scarborough Open went off quite well, although participation by our own members was down from previous years.  A big hand must go to Fred Bigioni who took charge of the officiating and did a splendid job, also Donald Cox, who worked his butt off, Rod and Irene who looked after the difficult paperwork jobs and tackle measuring, Steve with equipment, Don Ross, Joe DeGeer and any others whom I may have overlooked here.

Certainly, the highlight of the whole weekend was the sensational casting of Chris Seipio in the Anglers Fly Distance event.....188' Long Cast!!!  Steve Ryder easily captured the B Class Championship.  Steve is working hard on all his games and the results are showing up with personal bests every time he goes out.  Matt Ross once again cast beautifully to claim the Junior championship and I was lucky enough to win the Accuracy Flies, Distance Flies, Distance Plugs, All Distance and All Round A Class title.  Harvey Beck tied for the All Round with wins in the Accuracy Plugs, All Accuracy and Spin Distance.

A special thank you to Don Cox and Steve Ryder who never seem to miss a club night and always help out with the equipment and  targets.  Those members who are not getting out to Milliken Park with us on Wednesday evenings are surely missing out on a pleasant part of the club's activities.
