Duchesco

Ballo, choreographed by Domenico da Piacenza
For two men and one woman.

Steps: sempio (in 6), doppio (in 4 and in 6), saltarello (in 6), saltarello tedesco, piva (in 4), volta tonda, volta del gioioso, movimento, ripresa (in 6), reverenza.
Start:  In single file, Man 1 in front, then Woman, then Man 2 in the back, facing up the hall.

      Section I (16 bars in 6)
1 bar intro
15 Saltarelli, starting on left.
The musical pattern is 5 bars repeated 3 times, but with an extra bar at the end, so it can sound as if one should stop after 15 bars. It flows directly into the next section.

Section II (13 bars in 6)
Volta del Gioioso, Reverenza Left,
Woman figure-8 around men, starting by going around Man 1, using Sempio Left, Sempio Right, and 6 Doppii, starting Left and alternating,
Ripresa Left, Ripresa Right, Reverenza Left.

Section III (4 bars in 4)
Woman and Man 1 do right-hand turn with Saltarello Tedeso Left, Saltarello Tedesco Right,
Woman does not turn around at the end, but should be facing towards Man 2,
Woman and Man 2 do left-hand turn with Saltarello Tedeso Left, Saltarello Tedesco Right.
Everyone should end this section rather close together.

Section IV (4 bars in 4)
Woman figure-8 around men, starting by going around Man 1, using 4 Pive, starting on the Left.

      Section V (4 bars in 6)
Sempio Left, Sempio Right, Doppio Left, Doppio Right, Reverenza Left.

Section VI (7 bars in 4)
Woman Movimento , Men Movimento, Woman Voltatonda (Doppio Left),
(the movimenti take a full bar, rather than half a bar, in this recording)
Men Movimento, Woman Movimento, Man Voltatonda (Doppio Left), Woman Voltatonda (again, Doppio Left).

Dance ends, no repeat.

Reconstruction Notes

There is no music in the sources for this dance. The music on the recording has been (I presume) invented, in order to fit the dance. This reconstruction follows the music.

Section III: All versions of the dance except NYP (the Giorgio ms) have the men in turn going up to the woman to touch her hand, instead of doing a right- or left-hand turn with her. This will make the dance easier, and insures that they end this section nicely close together.

Section VI: I would expect to have only a half bar for each movimento, but the music invented has a full bar.

Repeat: Some of the sources call for a repeat, but the recording does not have one, and the dance has not ended with anyone not in their starting position, so a repeat would be done exactly as the first time through.
