Pazienza

Bassadanza, choreographed by Guglielmo Ebreo. (44 bars x 2)
For two couples.

Steps: all done "in 6" = Reverenza, sempio, doppio, ripresa, mezavolta, voltacia, saltarello.
Start:  Two couples, side by side, Man 1 on the left, then Woman 1, then Man 2, and Woman 2 on the right, facing up the hall. There should be 14 steps in front, 5 steps behind them.
 

      Section 1 (6 bars)
Sempio Left, Sempio Right, Doppio Left, Doppio Right, ending with Mezavolta Right,
"Chorus" = Ripresa Left, Ripresa Right, Reverenza Left.
(Everyone is now facing down the hall.)

      Section 2 - Arming (4 bars)
Partners take right hands and circle with Sempio Left, Sempio Right, Doppio Left,
Partners take left hands and circle with Sempio Right, Sempio Left, Doppio Right,
(Women are now facing up the hall, Men facing down.)

      Section 3 - separate (5 bars)
Doppio Left, Doppio Right, ending with a Mezavolta Right,
"Chorus" as above.

      Section 4 - pass through (7 bars)
4 Saltarelli starting Left, ending with a Mezavolta Right,
"Chorus" as above.

      Section 5 - return (5 bars)
Doppio Left, Doppio Right, Women ending with a Mezavolta Right,
"Chorus" as above.

      Section 6 - Women weave (8 bars)
Woman weave around men with Sempio Left, Sempio Right, Doppio Left, Doppio Right, Doppio Left, Doppio Right. They are both following the same figure-8 path around the two stationary men, going clockwise around Man 1 and counterclockwise around Man 2. To remember which direction to start in, follow Charles' Rule: "The person on the end goes behind who ever is next to them, the person in the middle goes in front of the person to their left."

      Section 7 - Men weave (9 bars)
Men weave around women with Sempio Left, Sempio Right, Doppio Left, Doppio Right, Doppio Left, Doppio Right. They are both following the same figure-8 path around the two stationary women, going clockwise around Woan 1 and counterclockwise around Woman 2. To remember which direction to start in, follow Charles' Rule, as above.
Voltacia, Reverenza Left.
(Everyone is still facing down the hall.)

Repeat the dance, going the other way, Women leading (so Men weave first). When the split occurs, the dancers will end up going in the same direction as the first time.


Reconstruction Notes

The "Chorus" after the women's weave actually had two continenze instead of a reverenza, but this was changed to make it easier to remember.



Recordings:

Forse Che Si, Forse Che No - 9 beat introduction, dance repeats after a 9 beat gap. I find the rhythm very hard to follow, especially in the repeat.Use this recording in class.
