Alejandro Escovedo and Shelby Lynne:  An Evening of Stories and Songs

  Alejandro Escovedo and Shelby Lynne have no shortage of tales to tell. A devout rock 'n' roller who draws from a range of musical styles, Rolling Stone favourite Escovedo has weathered heartbreak, illness and life on the road to build up an impressive 35-year career in music. Lynne, a native of rural Alabama, secured success on her own terms with the 2000 Grammy Award-winning phenomenon I Am Shelby Lynne and has continued to follow her own beat, most recently releasing the acclaimed Revelation Road on her own Everso Records label and delighting fans across the globe.

  Trumpeter Chris Botti is a man on the move. Emm Gryner w/ Erika & Sara

   Since getting her start in the 1990s, Emm Gryner has released 13 albums, been a member of David Bowie's band, set up her own label, received praise from U2's Bono, become a mother and, most recently, collaborated with astronaut Chris Hadfield on his Internet-rocking space station rendition of "Space Oddity." An expert at distilling life's ups and downs into song, Gryner is worth spending time with—when you can catch her.

Matt Dusk w/ Kellylee Evans & Eleanor McCain

   Great Canadian crooner Matt Dusk headlines a toe-tapping show at Winter Garden Theatre in the company of jazz and soul powerhouse vocalist Kellylee Evans and soprano Eleanor McCain. Dusk is equally at home singing swing, pop or jazz and equally happy to front a symphony, a big band or his quintet. Of late, he's gone back to an early love: 1950s jazz star Chet Baker, whose work forms the centrepiece of Dusk's terrific new album, My Funny Valentine.

Steve Earle
