C A N A D I A N O P E R A C O M P A N Y Cosi fan Tutte :: The Canadian Opera Company's Ensemble Studio performs Mozart's Così fan tutte. This new production of Mozart's classic battle of the sexes
depicts a wager made between two young soldiers, Ferrando and Guglielmo, to test the fidelity of their fiancées, sisters Fiordiligi and Dorabella.
The role of Ferrando is shared by tenors Michael Barrett and Adam Luther, while the role of Guglielmo is sung by baritone Alexander Hajek. Sopranos Betty Allison and Ileana Montalbetti share
the role of Fiordiligi, fiancée of Guglielmo, and mezzo-sopranos Erin Fisher and Lauren Segal sing the role of Dorabella, Ferrando's fiancée. The role of Don Alfonso, who plants the seed of doubt
regarding the ladies' faithfulness, is shared by bass-baritone Jon-Paul Décosse and bass Michael Uloth, while sopranos Laura Albino, Lisa DiMaria and Teiya Kasahara share the role of Despina, the sisters'
maid. Award-winning conductor, Martin Isepp and COC Ensemble Studio graduate Steven Philcox conduct while Michael Albano, director of last season's mainstage production of The Barber of Seville
, directs.

Summer Youth Intensive ::
The Canadian Opera Company's Summer Youth Intensive
program returns to inspire and challenge youth who have a strong interest in the performing arts. Youths aged 14 to 18 will gain insight into the life of a working performer as they receive vocal
training, as well as rewrite and restage scenes from operas featured in the COC's 2008/09 season. This five-day intensive workshop culminates with a performance of their creation.

This interactive one-week program teaches participants the skills they
need to recreate their own version of Richard Wagner's The Flying Dutchman, which they will perform for family and friends at the end of the program. Led by professional COC artists, young
people between the ages of seven to 10 and 11 to 12 will take part in hands-on music and drama activities, movement and make-up workshops and costume, prop and set design.
The two sessions run Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. from July 13 - July 17 2009 for ages seven to 10 and July 20 - July 24, 2009 for ages 11 to 12 at the Joey and Toby Tanenbaum Opera
Centre, 227 Front St. E. The program is $150 per child for one week, with some bursaries available. _

is a tale of intrigue, desire and deception. Writer Alex Poch-Goldin and composer Omar Daniel create a world of duplicity in which a humble postman assumes the identity of a wealthy suitor to win a woman's love. Determined to maintain the ruse at all costs, he is haunted by the Shadow as he spirals deeper into debt - an allegory for our time.
Director Tom Diamond and Music Director Wayne Strongman lead a stellar cast including baritone Peter McGillivray as Raoul, soprano Carla Huhtanen as Allegra and a comic turn by tenor Keith Klassen
as the waiter. Renowned Canadian baritone Theodore Baerg makes his Tapestry debut as the Don and Allegra's father and countertenor Scott Belluz is The Shadow.
