Body & Soul
:: The twelve women in the play come from a variety of backgrounds and ethnicities - black, white, native, South Asian, Quebecois - and share their heartrending
real stories as they relate their trials and triumphs. Hot on the heels of last year's sold-out success, Body & Soul
- the revolutionary play about women, beauty and aging - created by esteemed playwright Judith Thompson with women from many different walks of life, makes a welcome return to the stage.
Originally commissioned by Dove, Thompson worked with 13 Canadian women between the ages of 48 and 78 to question society's perceptions on beauty and aging. The result was phenomenal, as 13 women with no
previous acting experience, took to the stage and shared their real life stories under Thompson's tutelage, as a writer and director. Thirteen months later, Thompson remounts this stellar production
independently with a small team from the original production. This time there are 12 extraordinary women, now age 46 - 79, sharing their passions, their traumas, their dreams and their joys.

away from home for two years, he now confronts the family - and the life - he left behind. Of the Fields, Lately

Romeo And Juliet
:: As the best known love story in the English language, Romeo and Juliet
has had many interpretations and incarnations due to its universal themes of the futility of conflict, the power of love to unite and how events can spiral into tragedy when we fail to listen to one another. Rather than imposing another theme or time period on an already accessible piece, Canopy Theatre relishes the challenge of bringing audiences closer to the action.
The new island-style stage extension, designed by Dan Kurek, sits in the middle of the audience, creating an 'in-the-round' playing space to compliment the straight-on playing of
Philosopher's Stage. The design of the extension allows for actors to travel around and over top of the island with two playing levels. Creating this extra playing space also allows for scenes to flow from
each each other without pause; enhancing the spiral of action and feeding the turmoil of Romeo and Juliet.
July 15 - Aug. 1 Philosopher's Stage, Philosopher's Walk, 80
Queens Park (steps from the Museum Subway Stn.) Admission: $8 - $10 Bring your own blanket.
