Youth programs established to meet Province of Ontario, Community Involvement Activities, High School Diploma requirements.

In the Province of Ontario, Canada, all students must complete a minimum of 40 hours of unpaid community involvement activities before graduating from high school. This requirement is additional to the 30 credits needed for a high school diploma. Students will be able to choose their own community involvement activities, within guidelines that will be provided by the school. Students will be responsible for fulfilling this requirement on their own time, and for keeping a record of their activities on a form supplied by the school.

• Provide information to students and parent/guardians
• Provide students with documents required to record activities
• Develop a Board approved list of activities (in consultation with school councils and the school board insurance carrier) that are in keeping with provincial direction and school board insurance carrier requirements

• Provide a description of Community Involvement in school calendars.
• Provide students with all documents required to complete and record activities
• Provide students with a Board approved list of eligible and ineligible activities
• Upon submission of properly documented evidence, record the requirement as completed

• Identify and select an activity with the signed approval of the parent/guardian
• Notify the school of the activity selected (prior to any involvement)
• Complete and log a minimum of 40 hours of community involvement
• Obtain signed verification of completed hours from the location/individual where the activity took place and also a parent/guardian signature.
